New Appointments

Since making this decision, we are delighted to report that we have been able to make the following important appointments:-

Ulch Tapia will replace Peter as National Health Secretary of the Anglican Health Service. He has worked very closely with us during the last 4 years, travelling with us on the MV Mamose when we transferred from Lae to Popondetta in October 2000.
Ulch came to St Margaret’s CHW School as acting Principal, and later appointed Principal, at a time when it was facing a major crisis due to serious management problems. We worked together to put the school on its feet, since when it has grown from strength to strength. In 1997 when we arrived in PNG, the school was struggling with 15 students. In line with our Development Programme, we now have 53 students and an excellent academic standard.
This is a landmark in the development of AHS, as Ulch will be the first Papua New Guinean to hold the post of National Health Secretary.

Matthew Kuraiwae will replace Jean as National Coordinator of the Village Health Volunteer programme. Matthew trained as a Community Health Worker at St Margaret’s CHW School and was sponsored by AHS in 2002 to successfully study for the Diploma in Health Education at Goroka University. He is currently Village Health Aide Coordinator and Village Health Promotion Coordinator for Aipo Rongo Diocese. He will move to Popondetta later in November to take up his post and work closely with Jean to ensure a smooth handover.
He is also the first Papua New Guinean to hold this post.

Lesley Solokai as Diocesan Health Secretary for Aipo Rongo Diocese. He will be based at Koinambe and will take up his appointment on 28th November.
He has post basic diplomas in Paediatrics and Health Teaching and is currently undertaking a distance learning course for his Bachelor in Nursing.

Medical Officers

Dr Heidi Cruz, has been recruited by VSO to work as medical officer at St Barnabas’ Health Centre at Dogura. She is from the Philippines and will travel to Dogura to commence work on November 20th.

Dr Sohal and Dr DeSilva have now left Koinambe. We look forward to to welcoming Drs Jessica and Richard Keeble, also recruited by VSO to work at Koinambe from January.
