Time to Return Home
We came to Papua New Guinea for 2 years in 1997, and we have extended
our contract 3 times. It is with great sadness that we have decided
that we will not renew our contract again, when the current one expires
at the end of February 2005. This is for the following reasons:-
- The current AHS Strategy expires at the end of 2005, and a new
strategy will need to be formulated to commence at the beginning of
2006. We believe that it is appropriate for a new National Health
Secretary to do this.
- Most of our major capital projects are complete, The new Policy and
Procedures Manual is complete, the Village Health Volunteer programme
is well established in each rural diocese, and the water systems’
programme is also well established.
- The projects Peter was working on with the Churches Medical Council
are complete, ie Financial Policy, Conditions of Service and the
Procedures Manual.
- We believe that the time is right to appoint a Papua New Guinean to
the post of National Health Secretary.
- We have 4 grandchildren, all of whom were born since we came to PNG.
Also we haven’t lived permanently in our own home for nearly 13 years.
We will take our accumulated leave and depart from PNG on December 17th
to spend Christmas with our grandchildren in New Zealand before
travelling home to England.
